Angel’s trumpet continue to bloom even as the weather cools. Perhaps they will continue until frost. Their floral color is a bit off though, perhaps as a result of the cooler weather. They work out nicely for ‘Six on Saturday’, though. Strangely, not much else is blooming as well as angel’s trumpet is now.

1. Angel’s trumpet probably should not bloom so late, but does not seem to know or care that it is autumn. I was impressed by a previous bloom phase, so will see what this does.

2. This is a more open flower of the same angel’s trumpet as above. Its floral color is the most variable of the cultivars, but has most commonly been more peachy pink than this.

3. This angel’s trumpet flower should be frilly double white. I suppose that it is not so off color. However, it is barely frilly, and lacks double form. I can not complain. It is pretty.

4. This angel’s trumpet flower blooms with the peachy pink color that #2 should exhibit, but should bloom yellow. Again, I can not complain. I just wonder what is going on here.

5. If I remember correctly, this rhododendron is not off color like some angel’s trumpets are but it is very off season. My complaint is that it will not bloom for spring as it should.

6. Rhody might disapprove of all this off color commentary if he were not so thoroughly distracted by someone with goodies. He can not see the same colors as humans anyway.

  1. Rhody is definitely looking very alert! Hope you got some goodies. The angel trumpets are all lovely, I must try one again. Do these make it through the frosts? Hopefully the rhododendron will flower in the spring as well, double whammy!

    1. I did not get any goodies. Rhody did, and he does not share. Angel’s trumpet can get somewhat frosted here, but recovers from the substantial limbs that survive. Even if it does not get frosted, I cut it back anyway, just to keep it vigorous. The rhododendron is using all its bloom ability now, so will not be able to bloom with more than a few flowers for spring, but we deal with it.

  2. Ah, Rhody is fun and he was a treat to see at the end of this lovely post. 🙂 How interesting that the Angel’s Trumpet flowers are varying from their regular colors. Keep us posted during the next growing season re: changes. I wonder if they’re hybridizing? Too bad about the Rhododendron for next spring, but it’s nice to see such a beautiful bloom now.

    1. The peachy pink or orange angel’s trumpet changes color so much that I really do not know what color it is supposed to be. The yellow angel’s trumpet, though, should always be yellow. The white one changes floral form, but not color. There is a single white one here also, but it is not blooming.

    1. I make exception to the white rule for a few flowers, including angel’s trumpet. White is nice, but the others are better. I am not so keen on the double floral form of the common white. I do grow a single white angel’s trumpet, but it is weak, and only grows about eight feet tall. Also, the flowers are not quite as fragrant as the others. I grow it only for myself, but have not added it to the landscapes at work.
